Powering Your MOED Vulcano: Gas Connection Guide
⚠️ MANDATORY SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Before assembling or connecting your MOED Vulcano to a gas supply, please strictly observe the following CE-mandated safety rules:
-
Use outdoors only.
-
Read the instructions before using the appliance.
To achieve the Vulcano’s signature 500°C (1000°F) performance, a precise and secure gas connection is essential.
Why doesn't the MOED Vulcano come with a gas hose and regulator?
When we designed the MOED Vulcano, our philosophy was "we don't compromise." That principle applies just as strictly to your safety as it does to our 500°C baking performance.
We made the deliberate decision not to include a generic hose and regulator in the box for two critical reasons:
-
The Complexity of European Standards: There is no single "standard" gas connection in Europe. Across the continent, there are dozens of different national regulations dictating hose materials, required certifications, and specific thread sizes. Including a "one-size-fits-all" setup is impossible; it would mean shipping incompatible or non-compliant hardware to a large portion of our customers.
-
Your Freedom of Fuel and Bottle Choice: Even within your own country, the correct regulator depends entirely on the specific gas bottle you choose to buy. We do not know in advance whether you will choose to operate your Vulcano on Propane or Butane, which often require completely different pressure regulators. Furthermore, different local gas brands use different bottle valves (e.g., a "clip-on" vs. a screw-on fitting).
By allowing you to purchase the hose and regulator locally, we ensure you get the exact, certified hardware designed specifically for your chosen gas bottle and your local safety laws.
1. Identify Your Regional Pressure & Hardware
European gas appliances are calibrated to specific pressures based on destination countries. Check the Technical Panel on the back of your oven (or on Box 2/2 of your packaging) to confirm your factory-set configuration, then find your country below to see examples of what you need to buy.

Factory Setting: Butane/Propane 50mbar (Category I3B/P 50)
-
What you need: A 50mbar regulator (compatible with both Propane and Butane). These typically feature a threaded screw-on connection (KLF / G.12) that attaches directly to the gas bottle.
-
Hose Connection: Usually requires an 8mm gas hose with a 1/4" left-hand thread on both ends.

-
Factory Setting: Butane 28-30mbar / Propane 37mbar (Category I3+)
-
What you need: A 37mbar regulator if fueling with Propane, OR a 28-30mbar regulator if fueling with Butane.
-
Common UK Types:
-
Propane Patio Gas: Uses a 27mm "Clip-on" regulator.
-
Propane Standard: Uses a screw-on "POL" regulator (tightened with a spanner).
-
Butane: Uses a 21mm "Clip-on" regulator.
-
Hose Connection: Typically an 8mm orange LPG hose secured to the regulator and oven nozzle using metal jubilee clips.

NL/BE: Butane/Propane 30mbar
-
FR: Butane 28-30mbar / Propane 37mbar
-
What you need: In NL/BE, a 30mbar regulator is standard. In France, it depends on your gas type (37mbar for Propane).
-
Common Types: These regions often use a threaded "DIN" or "Shell" screw-on regulator, though France also uses 20mm or 27mm clip-on regulators (like Le Cube or Twiny).
-
Hose Connection: Often uses a hose with a 1/4" left-hand threaded nut on the oven side, and a threaded connection or nozzle with a hose clamp on the regulator side.

2. Guide to Gas Hoses
Regardless of your region, your gas hose must be officially certified for LPG use in your country. For optimal performance and regulatory compliance, the hose must not exceed 1.5 meters in length.
Depending on your local regulator and the included MOED Vulcano nozzle, your hose will connect in one of two ways:

3. Selecting Your Fuel: Propane vs. Butane
The MOED Vulcano’s F123 Burner is engineered to run flawlessly on both Propane (G31) and Butane (G30).
-
Propane (Recommended): The superior choice for year-round outdoor cooking. It vaporizes efficiently even in sub-zero winter temperatures, ensuring consistent high heat.
-
Butane: Highly efficient, but only suitable for mild weather. It struggles to vaporize when ambient temperatures drop below 5°C.
4. Mandatory Safety Protocol: The Leak Test
Before igniting the F123 burner for the first time, or whenever you change the gas bottle, you must perform a standard leak test.
-
Prepare a simple solution of water mixed with a few drops of dishwashing liquid.
-
Generously apply the soapy solution to all connection points: where the hose attaches to the Vulcano, and where the regulator connects to the gas bottle.
-
Open the valve on the gas bottle to pressurize the line. Do not turn on the oven's control dials.
-
Inspect the connections carefully. If bubbles begin to form and expand, a leak is present. Immediately close the gas bottle valve, tighten the faulty connection, and re-test until no bubbles appear.
If you are unsure about which specific regulator to purchase, simply take a photo of the Technical Panel on your Vulcano and present it to a local gas equipment specialist.
